If there’s one thing that has helped me most to improve my artistic abilities and uplevel my work, it’s doodling!
Have you ever thought about developing the habit of drawing to develop yourself creatively? If you are a beginner artist, you may be faced with the dilemma of not being able to draw professionally. Like anything new, we have to start from the bottom and work our way up. Doodling is relaxing, a form of active meditation and a great way to use our free time. Furthermore, you can improve your artistic abilities with doodling, I have with regular practice. And it will work for you too!
Daily doodling will help to improve your art, and your creative style to emerge. As your artistic abilities begin to flow, you can express yourself in more ways.
If you’re like me, over the years you’ve scribbled on your letters, journaling pages, and notebooks during a lecture or a meeting, or just while sitting alone. Hey! Doodling can sometimes create masterpieces. And for practicing artists, there’s nothing sweeter than when the breakthrough comes and looking back see how doodling has been the very catalyst!
I believe doodling a great way to improve your artistic abilities and drawing skills or get the breakthrough you’ve been yearning for.
Here are four ways doodling improve your artistic abilities:
1. Doodling Is A Way To Unleash Your Creativity
Let go of drawing a masterpiece and just letting the pen or pencil draw intuitively. Just grab a notebook, a pen, and just start drawing lines, dots, circles and triangles, and other shapes. You find yourself moving on from there, you can create your own forms from it. As you draw shapes over and over, remember that it’s not a matter of how good you are at it; but continually telling yourself to continue is enough.
2. Doodling Is A Way To Organize Your Thoughts
Sometimes it’s good to collect our thoughts. For example, begin doodling by drawing a large object or figure. Then you can bring its various parts. Or imagine it as a part of something more. Or you can brainstorm where you take two separate objects or ideas and join them. See what sense you can make out of it. This helps you become organized and train your mind to think out of the box.
3. Doodling Is A Way To Process Negative Feelings
We all have days when we don’t feel like getting out of bed or talking to anyone. Doodling can change your mood as you “doodle out” your negative thoughts and feelings. Be it frustration, disappointment, or any other manifestation of stress, you can convey your emotions through your drawing.
4. Doodling Is A Way To Build Confidence
If you are working with a significant picture or painting or other work, you can get help from doodling. Use it to break free of the need to bring about a result by doing a freehand drawing. Just like freehand writing opens up your brain to write better and faster, doodling can bring that to the blocked or lost artist. So don’t waste time and start doodling to put your skills into use and improve your artistic ability.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that our art and creative endeavors are a process that is continuously improving.
When we let go and doodle, it shifts our perspective back to one of the “journey” rather than pressing to get to the destination or finished piece.
Now armed with some facts about how doodling can improve your artistic abilities as an essential tool to help you become an aspiring artist or breakthrough your artist block.
Doodling is a powerful tool that I use daily. Doodling will expand your creativity, helping you to grow in confidence, and uplevel your work.
